JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Activity Director
Department: Activities
Report to: Executive Director
SUMMARY:
Responsible for planning, coordination and implementation of the activities program for residents. The Activity Director work Monday-Friday 8:30 am-5 pm and a Manager on Duty every 6th weekend, shift is 10a-2pm on Saturday & Sunday for MOD.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent. Ability to read, write, speak clearly and follow written and oral instructions. Previous experience in Activities is required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must meet the requirements indicated on the Employee Documentation Grid.
Must successfully complete training on listed on the Required Training Grid and any additional training as required by Federal State and local requirements.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must be aware of and understand the needs of the elderly. Must be able to recognize unusual behavior or physical condition of residents. Must be thoroughly familiar with all facility policies and procedures. Must be familiar with current licensure rules and regulations governing the facility. Must pass the Driver Road Test and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report each year. (Refer to Drivers’ Safety Policy).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Standing and walking through facility during work. Turning, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and/or lifting while transporting residents and/or in the facility. Works throughout the facility and the vehicle. Some lifting required, 10-15 lb. Must be able to assist residents in and out of the vehicle. Responsible for keeping a clean and neat work area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ACTIVITIES
Plan, schedule and implement internal and external monthly activity programs for residents focusing on variety and entertainment as well as physical well being.
Prepare and submit monthly activities calendar and newsletter for printing, for first of month distribution.
Coordinate seasonal decorations for the facility.
Assess needs and maintain an adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs while staying within budget.
Schedule guest speakers, entertainers, etc. to perform in the facility. Negotiate rate and set up specific information regarding date, time, equipment needed, etc.
Plan and schedule Resident Council meeting.
Coordinate refreshments at functions with the Food and Dining Director.
Coordinate the set-up of all activities to ensure proper equipment, staffing and supplies for the event.
Coordinate worship services with local churches.
Coordinate the volunteer program; ensure that all volunteers thoroughly understand their task.
Plan and implement evening and weekend functions regularly.
Ensure that the licensure requirement for activities is met.
Actively encourages all residents to participate in all activities.
Organize and schedule community events related to residents’ interests.
Recruit, schedule and supervise assistants and volunteers.
Be responsible for the safety of residents under your supervision. Complete an Incident Report for any incident, accident or unusual occurrence to any resident, staff member or visitor, which occurred in the facility.
Prepare “Thank You” notes and/or letters of appreciation for the individuals or groups who assist the facility in its activity program.
Visit and interview all new residents within 48 hours of move-in.
Conduct tours of the facility for prospective residents, their families and the general public, when needed.
Serve as “Manager on Duty” in the weekend rotation schedule. Manager on Duty every 6th weekend, shift is 10a-2pm on Saturday & Sunday for MOD.
Attend all mandatory meetings and in-service training sessions.
Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
Understand and follow all company policies including the Employee Handbook.
Complete other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Coordinate with Activity Assistant on weekend activities.
Drive the shuttle when needed for outings and activities outside of the community.
