Florida is reporting significant results from its efforts to combat Medicaid fraud, waste, and abuse.
On October 6, 2026, Governor Ron DeSantis announced the results of AHCA’s expanded Medicaid integrity initiative.
The Numbers Are Significant
According to the state’s announcement:
- 220+ Medicaid providers terminated for fraud, waste, or abuse.
- 260+ providers placed on payment restrictions or suspended.
- 150+ fraud-related referrals to the Attorney General’s Office.
- 400+ provider site visits conducted since January.
- Nearly $1 billion reduction in projected annual Medicaid spending on applied behavior analysis (ABA) services.
The terminated providers accounted for more than $230 million in Medicaid billing during 2025.
Could This Benefit Florida’s Medicaid Long-Term Care Program?
Here’s an important question worth asking.
If Florida can reduce Medicaid fraud, waste, and unnecessary spending, could some of those savings eventually be directed toward strengthening the Medicaid Long-Term Care program?
Florida’s aging population continues to grow, and Medicaid LTC plays an important role in helping seniors receive care in community-based settings.
Additional funding could potentially support greater access to services, improved reimbursement rates, and more opportunities for seniors to receive care outside nursing homes.
Of course, these reported savings do not automatically translate into additional LTC funding. Any increase would depend on state budget decisions, funding rules, and applicable approvals.
But reducing waste should create an opportunity to discuss how Medicaid dollars can better serve the people who genuinely need care.
